And they're doing something about it: There are patches or mods that remove or replace spiders for most popular games: http://www.rahya.de/pages/p...

Re: Arachnophobia and video games

Wow, great article. I just finished the Orzammar quest today, which is nothing but giant spider after giant spider. I too am an arachnophobe, if there is a spider in the room I will not rest till I know it's either dead or out the house.
But as I played through Dragon age I found myself rather enjoying the giant spider moments, I find them to be the most beautifully crafted enemies in the game what with their fluid movements and interesting colours and the way their pincers will react with their every step.

After playing through it and rather curious at my own acceptance of these digital eight legged bastards I typed "video games and arachnophobia" into google and one of the first things that came up was this artice, and to my surprise it was only written earlier this month.

The thing is though I wasn't always able to tolerate digital spiders, years ago I remember not being able to play Tomb Raider II due to the jumping spiders, and I remeber an old PS1 Aladdin game in which I couldn't get past a set of levels due to its giant spiders (which were oddly realistic looking for a disney game) I was terrified. Another example is Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets. In this game you had to fight a giant spider, and when I say giant I mean fill the fucking screen giant, I had to call my sister into the room to keep me company while I fought the damned thing by looking at the bottom corner of the screen and mashing the buttons till the job was done. Till this day i can't quite recall what that boss battle looked like.

Great article, now I must go and beat the archdemon.

Re: Gotta catch ‘em all! Stopped that gym battle halfway through to do a google search.

Re: Where is Danny!’s Where is Danny?

http://www.2dopeboyz.com/20...

There's a new version of the album being reworked

Re: Behold, nerds: A new Arkham City Trailer

Agh, don't link to Chris Sims. Progress is Death: Super Meat Boy and the joy of dying

The game causes what I like to describe as the meat trance. Basically you pick up the controller, try a level, and end up playing until your hand is sore from the kung-fu grip you're giving the controller.
The death to rebirth time is so quick, you really don't even have time to react angrily towards a death before you're already back on the screen. When you play through a level, it just becomes one-long interconnected attempt, instead of dozens of tries.
